HST Update for Mardi Gras Vendors

As many of you are adjusting to and trying to make sense of the implementation of HST on July 1st, 2010, so are we. Recently, our office attended a seminar on HST and how it will affect our upcoming events.

As the DKA Mardi Gras Street Festival takes place AFTER July 1st, 2010 vendors are effected by the new tax.

Vendors paying BY April 30th, 2010 will pay GST, as in previous years.

Vendors paying ANYTIME AFTER May 1st, 2010 will be charged 12% HST.

Vendor application forms available to you on this site have been updated to include this new information.

The Downtown Kelowna Association asks that you excercise patience in the application process this year as I’m sure that we will have a few bumps along the way.

HST implementation will effect applications for Mardi Gras in 2010

As many of you know, Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) will come into effect on July 1st, 2010. This tax applies to a majority of goods and services sold in B.C.

For the 2010 DKA Mardi Gras Street Festival, this means that vendors submitting payment on or after July 1st, 2010 will be paying 12% tax on their application fees.

I encourage you to submit your applications, along with payment, before July 1st, 2010 to avoid an increase in application fees due to this new tax.

Forms and Applications for Mardi Gras Now Available

Vendor applications and applicable forms are now available through this blog!

By clicking on the middle tab, marked “2010 Events: Forms & Applications”, at the top of the page you can download the appropriate vendor form for participation in this year’s DKA Mardi Gras Street Festival.

*Spaces will be allotted once payment, in full, has been received by the DKA

**Spaces are allotted on a first-come, first-served basis with existing Downtown businesses taking priority

Trophy Winners from our 2009 DKA Summer Nite Car Show

Many of you have been inquiring about the Trophy Winners from our show in 2009. To refresh your memories, below are the details and parameters of each category:

Vintage: This category, generally, pertains to vehicles built between the early 1900’s through to the end of the 1940’s.
Classic: This category pertains to original vehicles, American or foreign built.
Muscle: This category includes stock as well as modified vehicles.
Import: This category includes vehicles, of any era, manufactured outside North America.
Custom: This category includes any vehicles with mild to wild modifications. Open-ended modifications including audio, body work & interior are considered.
Street Rod: This category‘s emphasis is on high-end custom paint jobs, luxury interiors and modern engines in older vehicles.
Truck: This category includes all trucks, whether they are low to the ground or high in the sky.
Motorcycle: This category includes vintage, dirt, cruiser, chopper and sport bikes. Sidecars are a welcome addition.
People’s Choice – Best Paint: This category’s focus is exterior paint jobs and is open to all makes and models of vehicles, including motorcycles.
People’s Choice – Best Interior: This category’s focus is quality and/or luxury interior work open to all makes and models of vehicles
People’s Choice – Best Overall: This open-ended category has no limits. The vehicle of choice just has to be your favorite!
